Why do we have to have
the gas lights?
Over 67% of the gas lights in our community are turned off. That
should tell you that most of the homeowners do not want to use
them. But yet, the board is forcing us to turn them back on because
they want them on. They are supposed to be representing the wishes
of the homeowners, not themselves. If some people like them on,
great, those people can leave them on. But for those of us that
don't want to waste gas or electricity, let us keep them off. The
city of Scottsdale actually prefers that streets aren't brightly lit
so that you can see the stars and ask that if you want lights, to
have them cast their glow downwards - definitely not what the gas
lights do. |

First of
all, the area - at least in my section of Sierra Ridge - has
virtually no street lighting and it's very dark. The little 40 watt
bulbs in the electric lamps hardly obscure the stars. In Scottsdale,
you can see the stars in Troon or McDowell Mountain Ranch, but not
much in Sierra Ridge, with or without the little lamps. Good
neighborhood lighting can deter crime and provides safe passage for
walkers, joggers and even drivers on our winding streets.
Secondly, our lamps lend friendly personality to our neighborhood
and lift it from just the ordinary. I have always felt they were an
inspired addition to our premises and urge everyone to get them back
on one way or another. How about solar, if gas or electric is
disliked?
YES! To our "coach lighting"!! |
