MINUTES OF THE APRIL HOA MEETING

I was surely hoping that someone would wonder where the minutes of the April HOA meeting was that I promised three weeks ago and would call me on the carpet about it!  *sigh*

Well they have!  So I am going to let you now what is new in our community.

In regards to April's meeting the HOT topics were these:

  • Comments and concerns must be kept to 3 minutes.  For some reason the board and Jomar don't want us to speak at our own HOA meeting.  We were dismissed after approximately one hour so they could have their executive part of the meeting were they are suppose to talk about concerns in the community.  This is not what this meeting is being used for.
  • Meetings may not be recorded.  For some reason this has been brought up at two meetings.  No one has ever recorded anything.  More importantly, what are they afraid of?  I did hand them a piece of paper with the Arizona State Statute that states that anyone involved in the meeting can record it.  They were not aware of this law.
  • Treasury Report
  • Management Report
  • New Business which included Lamp Letter updates and Architectural committee business.

So basically that was the talk at the meeting until the subject was brought up about our secretary of the board having an A/C unit on his roof that is in direct violation of our CC&R's.  Darren then proceeded with a slide show of different awnings, extended driveways, backyard patio's and the like trying to justify why he put and A/C unit on his flat roof.  He seem to forget that these were all approved by the board.  They were approved by himself!

He was asked to step down.  The board members cannot figure out why he should have to take down his A/C unit.  It was pretty obvious to all of us at the meeting.  It's because the CC&R's say so.  RULES ARE RULES!  For EVERYONE to follow.  Why should he be exempt and everyone else has to abide?

When the question was brought up that maybe legal action could and should come into play Darren's response was "I wouldn't do that if I were you".  What does that mean?  I know many people were very taken aback and I myself felt as if it were a threat of some sort.

Jomar is actually on his side.  They have never been on my side.  Have they been on yours?

A special meeting was suppose to be called to discuss this issue of the A/C unit on the flat roof for all homeowners to attend.  It was dropped.  I guess Darren, our secretary, on our board, is allowed to do what ever he wants.  But you and I better make sure we follow the rules!

On a personal note, I have never met a group of people that are suppose to be in a profession setting be so mean and spiteful.  The manipulation that occurs in regards to our CC&R's from the board and Jomar is unbelievable.  They were how ever quite welcoming to a new member.  I had never met MaryAnn, our vice president, but I guess my reputation preceded me because she never even said hello to me.  Kate, from Jomar seems to think that she runs the meeting as well and consistently interrupted again.  Quite annoying actually when homeowners are trying speak.

It's a homeowner's meeting after all.
